Street Walks

Street Walks

A Poem by DannyLynne Riley

I walk among streets in a broken world.

I walk among troubled times.

I walk through struggle...

through poverty...

through violence...

I walk among injustice of every kind.

I walk through heartache...

sorrow...

famine and pain.

I walk with the burning sun on my face

And I walk under torrents of rain.

I walk through darkness and yet I still see

The promise of life...

It still callin' to me

Glass half empty...

Glass half full...

Life is what you make it

And I say it's beautiful.

Even in pain

I say it the same

This beautiful life is mine to claim

With innocense in my heart

I will always remain

And view my life through a childs eyes

Full of wonder...

And surprise

I love a poem that stands defiantly in the face of hopelessness and despair. This poem does that with great flourish. My only two niggles are ....

"I walk among injustice of every kind."

... how would this sound if tweaked to be ...

"I walk amidst injustice of every kind."

And then the line below might benefit from a mild alteration ...

"It still callin' to me"

... How about ...

"It's still callin' to me" or "It still calls out to me"

Just a few thoughts.

Awesome display of truthful innocence, and do consider Deep Thinkers suggestions.

A wonderful description of searching for something better
to conform to. Imagery paints a story of hard times and
hard luck. Sad but beautifully written...
