Fake A Smile

A poem about pain hiding within..... We've all got it.......

I wish I was stronger,

I wish I could be brave.

I wish I had the courage

To beat back the sadness.

I put on a pretty face,

I smile like nothing’s wrong.

But deep inside I’m hurting,

More than you could ever know.

I know I can’t win.

But I tell myself to pretend.

I fake a smile, put up a front.

All the while wondering

How I’ll make it to tomorrow.

When I’m alone,

The pain takes over.

Blackness surrounding me;

I can’t breathe, can’t think,

This sickness inside me,

Waiting ‘till I’m alone.

You did very well with the poem. Easy to hide the true emotion we feel. Most of us fake smiles and happiness to survive each day. The strong description brought to life the sadness and fear in the poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

This is fine, the character is obviously a bit desperate! I would like to have seen a bit of imagery. And perhaps some sign of hope at the end!

A poem does not have to have imagery, yours is fine as it is, but if you say 'something is like....' it opens up the imagination of the reader. But we are all different. You stick to your style!
