angels, again

angels, again

A Poem by Emily B
"

not where I thought I would go, but a stop on the journey all the same

"

Leroy is an angel.

Standing at the busy intersection

sweating in the summer sun

with hand-lettered sign

and corresponding words

painted on his t-shirt.

I marvel at his martial enthusiasm.

Shining, Messenger of God,

reminding us that this life

is fleeting

as I drive past Kroger

on my way to other things.

Author's Note

while I can't say that Jesus is coming THIS year, his message of repent or perish always catches my eye. found the photo on flickr, surprised me to find him there--a little. And I wonder mostly what my local churches would do if Leroy showed up on Sunday morning.

My belief has always been that good speaks through people. And my belief has always been that evil lives in people. Those that do the most good here on earth are angels. A man with a handwritten sign can indeed be an angel.

I wonder if there is a second coming If believing will be enough to be saved? Maybe people like Leroy will get a seat on the front of the bus.

I like his t-shirt that says Jesus saves. Does Jesus save at Kroger? :-)

A contemporary piece....I love it!

I really enjoy the Leroy's of this world. I think too often people pay no attention to them at all - and if they do, it's with derision. I would like to meet your Leroy, and at least here - I kind of feel like I have.

I love the mundane thought of driving to go grocery shopping while the world is busy being itself, all the bustling, I hate shopping, I may be the only woman alive who does. I don't mind spending money, it's the crowds that do me in, the lines, the proximity, you know...but I love to watch people from a safe distance doing normal stuff.

me too! outdoor flea markets are fun :)
There's something about those words that made me sit straight and attentive in my chair! Strangely generous when you sense someone who makes you think of the wonderfully unusual, who reminds you that some people have either a spirit glow or a magic one that opens the eyes wide and wider .. then, disappears out of sight, having burned into the memory. I'd vote for Leroy, any time. In fact, I do.

they live among us Ms Emily, homeless, hungry, I understand while I go about my daily business being
small. Sometimes, not allways, but sometimes I stop and give them some loose change, sometimes
a dollar. (Never two because two dollars could translate into a chicken sandwitch and fries from
Mcdonalds dollar selection, or two scratch off lottery tickets with the chance of being a millionair,
or a third gallon of gas, or the Detroit News for two days telling of the cities bankrupcy or
whatever two dollars can symbolize). See what I mean, I understand while I go about my daily
besiness,
being small.

good write,
hder.

Really thought provoking and rings so true. I have wondered myself if maybe those so-called "crazies" are the ones who are the prophets, and we are fools for not taking heed.

I enjoyed this my friend. I wonder what the churches would do as well. John the Baptist was clothed in skins; a wild and fearsome Bedouin...eating locusts and wild honey for his dinner. What did his cousin Jesus say of him? Among the sons born of woman, there is none greater than John, except the Son of Man who came to save the world. And what did they (the followers of John) go into the desert to see; a man dressed in fine clothing? Those who dress in fine clothes live in king's palaces. Why do we respect raiment more than love? Why do we honor flesh more than Spirit? It is a fitting question, especially for the churches.
