Cigarettes

Cigarettes

A Poem by Andrea
"

Love and cigarettes have one thing in common...They are both nasty addictions. Don't fall into temptation to things you know feel wrong.

"
My lungs inhale every word you say
as if you were a cigarette;
and these stresses are relieved
and the smoke rolls in so smooth.

I breathe you in
and watch you light up
to the pleasurable feelings
I get when you are pressed to my lips.

I've taken in your lust-filled smoke
so many times,
unaware that this thoughtless joy
was coated in cancer.

Suddenly breathing is harder
but I cannot help my cravings
for your sensation filled decay.
I'll inhale you until it kills me.

i love this. especially the lines "unaware that this thoughtless joy/was coated in cancer". an unexpected and delightful comparison.

This is such a true comparison. they are so much alike and not many realize it. i love the way you make it so the reader could take it as you talking about your cigarette or your love for someone. it shows you have multiple viewpoints which always makes poetry more wonderful (: good write

This again, (sorry to sound boring) is a brilliant use of words. this reads perfectly for both cigerettes, love and both. And as a smoker at least, yeah, this is a perfect description of our own stupidity. This should be on packets instead of health warnings.

Wow, I find this poem addictive... I love it when contrasting things are so surprisingly compared. Your imagery of what makes a cigarette poisonous being applied to a dysfunctional relationship is just perfect.

..."coated in cancer." and ..."I'll inhale you until it kills me."...I love those lines, beautiful!

I love the concept of this poem! Cigarettes have a strange sort of allure because they're something you know is bad for you, yet you can't quit. Comparing it to love is such a cool thing to do. I love the lines "unaware that this thoughtless joy was coated in cancer." Good job!
