With Me

With Me

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

I thought that you were here beside me, watching the sun rise in awed silence.

"

Dawn breaking shore.

I want to know

where you are.

I thought that

you were here beside me,

watching the sun rise

in awed silence.

When I looked to my side,

you weren’t there.

As the sun rose,

I looked for you

in the red-orange light.

Not there.

I searched the city,

scoured the crowds,

and I saw

every face but yours.

Not there.

I sifted the sand dunes,

my feet leaving behind

soft impressions easily

washed away by

the waves.

Not there.

It breaks my heart

 not to see you.

I love you.

I don’t want

to lose you.

With sadness in hand,

I returned to the beach.

You are standing there,

just having arrived.

You are here

with me.
