Inside Death

Inside Death

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

To the survivors of the Holocaust.

"

What have you seen with these

dull eyes of yours?

A nightmare in reality,

a dream that terrifies.

Young, old suffer

at his hands.

Cursed in a hell on Earth

to suffer

in the grueling work,

to endure

the screams of the dying.

Innocence,

an anomaly,

is breath that can

be stolen from the lungs.

Burning flesh,

the scent drifts on the air.

Jewish babies

thrown into the flames.

Can you hear them?

Can you see them?

Feel the agony,

the impending doom

of what is to come.

Ashes to ashes,

dust to dust,

flesh to flesh.

Walking dead greet you,

holding out a single

skeletal hand.

It isn't true, it didn't happen,

they say.

The proof lies in front of you.

Listen to the heartbreaking

words of survivors

who saw more darkness

torture

evil

than human eyes should

ever have to see.

The truth lies

inside silence,

inside death.
