Bleeding Heart

Bleeding Heart

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

Can't you just love me?

"

I just wanted to feel love.

I wanted to feel wanted

in more ways than one.

The hugs, the smiles,

and the tender kisses

told me one thing when

you were after something else.

Now my pain, a flame, burns

deep in my soul.

It sears my insides

and tears me to shreds.

Burning words I don’t mean

flow off my tongue and

to my friends.

Because of you I have

a burning heart.

Now my agony, a knife,

impales my love for you.

It gores my affection

and cuts apart my sanity.

I am starved for life

and lay here lifelessly.

Because of you I have

an aching heart.

Now my love, something I

once cherished, is something I loathe.

It pines for your attention

as another side of me

recoils in disgust.

I cannot help how I feel

as much as I hate it.

Because of you I have

a bleeding heart.

As bruised as I feel,

I look towards the blue sky

and find faith in another,

better person.

And the bleeding heart

can finally heal.
