Encased in ShadowA Poem by E.V. BlackI reached to the stars and tried to feel their light. My hands fell through the sky, brushing radiant blue shadows. Darkness caressed my skin in cool, forbidden kisses. Slowly, I began to lose myself.
Before the light, I reached towards it with bright hope. Darkness whispered, beckoned, and I heeded its call. The master of night wrapped me in his arms, trapping me inside myself. He encased me in shadow so I wouldn’t escape.
Still, I long for the light I had seen before. I cried out, screaming at the darkness to free me. Fighting, battling, my body refused to move. How could a tasteless shadow capture me so easily? Swiftly, I began to sink into oblivion.
Behind the light and under the moon, I lingered to taste its delicate sweetness sprinkling onto lesser beings. Like snow, falling, finding home somewhere else. Encased in shadow, I wept for lost light.
The night master embraced me possessively. He whispered dark desires against my neck. Erupting, volatile lust crawled over my body and spun webs of deceit from its scarlet abdomen. Giving in, I met his lips in a bittersweet kiss that tasted of the darkest chocolate. Black bile, poison, roared down my throat and made me his.
After the light, glassy hope shattered and scattered across the universe. My body floated in the dark dust of stars, the Lady of Shallot coasting down the eternal river of the cosmos. Encased in shadow, I was no more. © 2011 E.V. BlackAuthor's Note
