The Broken Heart

The Broken Heart

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

He was taken from me.

"

It was found that,

during morning hours,

my most trusted companion

would fall into a state

of repose and never awaken.

I found my face flooded

with a cataract of tears.

I had never anticipated

that such a time would come.

I stared long and hard

at him, waiting

for movement.

I embraced him,

stroking his magnificent golden

fur. I reminisced of times

spent filled with much fain.

I bade farewell for the last

time, looking back solemnly.

All through the day

my mind was plagued

with thoughts of my golden

pup. When I arrived

home and entered the house,

I was much perturbed

by his absence.

I knew I had to face

the truth that

my friend was gone

forever.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
This was for the loss of a pet that had died nearly a decade ago. He was sweet and funny and mischievous. My family loved him, though he was sometimes trouble.
This was written for him. May you rest in peace, Brandy boy.
