Like a Heart

Like a Heart

A Poem by E.V. Black

Such a soft voice

that I can’t hear.

Whisper to me here;

you’re all I need.

Crying…this wouldn’t

be the first time.

Such soft music plays.

We’re alone together.

I place my faith in you.

The darkness melts away

as I watch from

within your arms.

Like a whisper,

I feel your presence

warming my own.

I close my eyes.

What would this be?

Breaking away,

I look at you.

You look at me

knowingly and

expecting something more.

I divert my gaze and

watch the sun rise.

Like a heart,

something in me

knew that this would be

our last farewell.

Funny how I broke

as easily as a heart.

The simplest word

shattered my fragile surface.

I had wished to

love you for so long.

Like the heart inside of me,

I expected so much.

As I look at you,

I really see you.
