Beating Drum

Written 5/7/15 "Quiet, I whisper To my little beating drum"

Dawn is approaching soon
And though I am tired;
Completely drained
Every part of me
Feels restless right now.
I become very aware
Of the fast paced rhythm
Beating in my chest.
Quiet, I whisper
To my little beating drum
But it only beats louder
Demanding to be felt... to be heard.
Tonight it cries out echoes
Of wonders
Of what ifs and whys.
But even over all of these loud echoes
All I hear
Is thoughts of inadequacy.

Yea I was feeling restless that night when I wrote this and then my best friend was upset about something and I was trying to cheer her up but I was in a bad place at the moment so I felt like I wasn't good enough because I couldn't help her. :/

ITs the thoughts of inadequacy that i can completely relate too. That silent voice that keeps speaking ..if only it was so easy to drown it out!!

That wish to melt into the background can be detrimental for our whole well-being and this 'little drum' seems determined to not be party to that. The shadows can afford us protection but no growth. There is conflict here.

That is something I'm known for, always trying to be in the background, not noticed. I will even on occasions 'disappear' and not talk to anyone for a while.

Emerging from the background can take a lot of out one so I can understand the need to regroup and recuperate but sometimes those little drums make so much noise they attract attention despite the wishes of the 'owner'. Nice to talk to you GreenEyedPoet

It definitely takes a lot of out me, that's the life of an introvert lol.
Yes those little drums do cause quite an uproar sometimes, they like to wake the neighbor (the brain) with all their noise too. Though I guess it's only fair, seeing as the neighbor can make a lot of noise too lol.
