It's Where Song's Come From....

It's Where Song's Come From....

A Poem by Crowley
"

From some random prompt....

"

I wrote this after seeing an actual wolf

I was searching for treasure in Alberta

Like it’s the dragon’s lair, I beg to differ honey

But I did realize there are things scarier than you leaving me

And this song isn’t so much about anything

It just represents a point of disembarkation

And you don’t have to get it

We Interrupt this drivel for station identification…

“Where do you get your Song’s?”

     "Really?”

     “What?”

“That’s the sort of question a third grader might ask?”

“I think your fan’s would like to know.”

“Let me tell you something David……my fan’s don’t ask me stupid questions. All they really want is to hang out, be a part, get a little close, OK man.”

     “Sorry.”

“Listen, if you really want to know where I get my songs then open your damned ears, I’m only gonna say this once. Count this down, David.”

“It's Maggie’s dingy thong showing every time she sits down. It’s my grandmother blowing smoke rings with her pipe.  It’s Eddie Vedder in the mother f*****g rafters.  It’s Dolly Parton and her s****y coat.  It’s mom making heart for us kids because she’s making liver for dad and we hate liver.  The only thing is David, heart is no damned consolation to a kid. It’s thinking about how cool it would be to walk on the moon.  It’s smoking a cigarette after the show with Justin Furstenfeld.  It’s shelling out your last hundred bucks to go see the Avett Brothers. Do you see what I’m saying David?  It’s that stupid look on your face right now.”

     “OK.”

“Of course you don’t get what I’m saying David.  You are not an actual wolf.  All you got to do is sit down and f*****g listen man…just listen.”

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming…

She wrote that after lying with an actual wolf

After the proselytizing was done, she was convincing

One word can be a savior, a salve, a poultice for the soul

Which word depends on how far down that road she’s been

You can take her out and sniff your territory together

But when the snow starts blowing and the wind cuts

It will be nothing compared to the bite she takes out of your a*s

 Who’s the actual wolf now?

You have always had the most remarkable way with words, my friend! And here is no exception. You make the darkness dance, and laugh, and cry, and call to the wolves that live all around us and within us. So glad you're still here, and hoping your words keep flowing to fill our minds with these wild paths of thought.

Well I never... how perfectly rude...
See now, sometimes prose poetry is just that..a story of the random, a song that comes in the middle of a kite floating over a drowning sea. You make it work as best you can and thank whatever it was that came down to put the wolf into your lap. OR you edit until the poetry and wolves are dead. In this case I'd leave it as is, a perfect switch and mind twist to make you pay attention to who is saying what, where and when..and mostly for what reason? I don't know the background but I do know the wolves and I know the coat of Dolly and the Vedder rafter so I like it. If I was to break apart the lines to tell you which scream and which don't ..well, I'd be here all day. For me it's a great howl into the howling knife of heart and frustration so props for the read..Enjoyed it immensely!

OK friend Crowley, it’s me trying to “get” this ( or is 66 too old to try? Yeah....No!). Eddie Vedder ....Maggie’s dirty thong- the alpha and the omega of all reason. If you lie down with wolves in a Dragon’s lair, do you get a ’Dr-olfe’ or a W-agon’’ or Wolfman Jack broadcasting from the ‘Great Beyond’??? Your poem is an altered state existing somewhere north of New York City I think. Literal? Figurative? Absolute Magic! I love it. The End. Or is it??......

Thanks Annette, I know a little strange...
I am not following every twist & turn of your story, but I like the careless haphazard array of ideas put forth like a well-manicured stream of consciousness piece. I like the imaginative playful way you dip out & back into regularly scheduled programming. The longest paragraph is a marvel of imaginative details & I envy your fountain of popping spilling thoughts. I’m reminded that Native teachings consider wolf to be the spiritual teacher. To me, powers of observation are the best tools for growth & learning. Your writing shows your keen observations in a wide variety of situations (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I figured this one would make a few people scratch their head. Me tooo...lol. Thanks Margie!!
more like a stray mutt, but your prose speaks to that very question. To follow creativity, give way to the "wolf hunger" that it takes when mind and means aren't in sync, to sacrifice comfort and convenience to learn more, hear more, see more, and then realize that you are the only one that made it that far... those kind of experiences, pursuits, commitments are what it takes to really understand the lyrics, but then again, just enjoying the song/music for the sheer sake of enjoyment and riding with the flow is an intuitive understanding. Nice framing here.
