Abandoned Writers Cafe

Empty rooms in empty halls.

Accounts silent - long abandoned
the words bankrupt
vacant fronts of creativity
washed over; hollow; run down.

Verbs sway on rusted hinges
the strains of old poems
cross pages like tumbleweeds.

Profiles shuttered - desolate
unopened for years, collect dust
while messages to forgotten friends
go unanswered

I still visit the profiles of old friends here, some that I know seldom if ever, revisit the site. Others are departed from life itself. I revisit their comments on my posts on other sites as well. I'll find one and say, well, wasn't that nice? This is eloquently poignant. I enjoyed and I relate. F.

As do I. They are like monoliths on a partways barren land.

This is beautiful, the words pull you in, I have to agree with the haunting feeling the other person wrote., I'm also very visual with poetry and love the photo you selected to go with it.

Thank you very much, Deborah.
I have done just that, allowing my poetry to gather dust in the archives, losing touch with contacts, but every once in a while when I think I have been forgotten I go back and test the water. A nice piece of free verse here, with strong imagery coming through. The abandonment comes through. I can feel it. Nicely done. Thank you.

I've seen them come and go. Some return, but only briefly. Life gets in the way I guess. Thanks Chri.. read more

Busy people, busy lives.
Hi AA, I am afraid I am one of those who write for a little while, and then disappear. This is because after a whole lifetime of writing I get so fed up with of it and make up my mind to give it all up. But then the addiction takes over me and I am pulled back. I guess this is who I am. I loved your poem my friend. A very well written piece, mate. All the best....Peter

Thank you, peter.
This piece really hits home, the fact that writerscafe is taking a plunge into darkness, lets try and not let this happen, well done, good read.

That's very kind of you to say, Shockandawe. I won't. Thank you. :)
All things come to an end. In this case a very poetic end. Very good work. You have some good images here - I thought 'Verbs sway on rusted hinges' was excellent but many others. I must say that i find this WC a very strange place - we communicate with ciphers that we know not who or where?
Well done
Alan (that's not my hair!)

haha, thank you, Alan.
I love this, I know of one site I used to be on years ago, and went back and have left because the people running the site made it less fun to post.. but I do think there are more out there that has died but still linger there waiting to see people again.. Nice write..

Thanks for your thoughts, Ghost.
That is exactly how I feel, after not writing for almost a year, I come back to find none of my old friends here :(
My old poems sitting alone, invisible..
it saddened me
Thank you for this poem

It's a good thing that like this poem, I'm drawn to lost and abandoned knowledge.
