And I

And I

A Poem by Mark
"

There is this one woman...

"
and I loved you
the day I saw you
outlined in chapel soft light,
quietly, you were sitting in a pew.

12 years old and struck in awe
Something about the way
your eyes pierced the truth
the set of calm in your face.

and we grew and all the time
I didn't know, but I knew
down inside, that place
that's empty and waiting.

and I lost you
and we went seperate ways
in long dazed, crazed
smoke and drink days.

and I thought of you
from time to time
eyes and the halo only I saw,
of your clear sight and heart.

and I will love you
until I've died,
even though we may never
walk the same ground.

Sometimes it feels like
I want to cut that part
out and throw it away.
Today, it just feels like...

What matters is not what
love makes us feel
but what love does;
the connection we can't break.

Mark, this is a very deep and touching poem.

We do carry that love with us forever don't we, when that one person has reached in so deeply and grabbed onto us harder than we could have imagined possible? Even when separated the connection is always there, always palpable, always felt... it may sometimes be one sided, but it is still love, tender, and ever present.
Very heartfelt and warm - thoroughly enjoyed!

Oh Mark...this touched me deeply. There are some people we will always love in a special way. Whether they are a part of our life or not. Beautiful poem...

I agree with the last stanza and this is quite sad, you lost a love you had, so many of us have gone through the same experience but the good thing is we have memories to fall into. Thank you for sharing

This is a very beautiful poem, I think I'm about to cry. You can never forget the person you love, and the bond which is so strong, just cannot be broken, no matter what words or actions takes place. It quietly sleeps in one corner of our hearts, and makes it heavy.

Your ultimate stanza is the essence--and appropriately so. Keep exploring it.

Sometimes we feel a connection to people we've just met. People we know we'll never see again. Perhaps it's better this way. They can be whoever we want them to be in our memory. It gives us things to think about. Great work. This is a really sweet poem :)
