The Facebook Lullaby

The Facebook Lullaby

A Poem by J Kriger
"

Are you suffering with symptoms that include headaches, drowsiness and a lack of overall fulfillment in your life.... maybe do a puzzle with a friend. Call your mom up, tell er' you love her... Eh?

"
And here you are,
My lonely friends.
Woeful, walking to your settled ends.
How can I watch you walk asleep,
No life remains but monotone heart beats.
You're sick and there is nothing I can do,
But flaunt my healthy spirit in front of you.
I wish i could open your dazzy eyes,
And scream to you "Wake Up there's life beyond these blinding lies"!
They want you out there all alone.
Like scattered sheep to rip you flesh from bone.
Oh drink our medley of sedative brew,
And awe upon your gods of new.
They'll come of different shapes and sizes.
One to fit you all in comforting disguises.
Whether it is vanity through fame you seek,
They'll grant your 5 minutes with a pointless tweet
Or maybe it is gluttony of gossip,
Like slow drips they'll drop through Facebook's faucet
A picture of your self perhaps,
To show the world you're proud of years elapsed.
But still you know its just a baseless substance,
Filling a hole so empty and only full of absence.
Questions rising from a chasm in a lonesome mind,
To try and justify your instincts walking blind.
Why do I f**k with every gaze that meets my fancy?
Why do my knuckles bleed from mouths that utter pansy?
Why do I drink myself to black in hopes of wiping memories that stain?
Why in that sleep I cry and hope to end a bandaged pain?
Why does my soul suffer with pains that worsen with time's pass?
Why do I yearn through visions of nostalgic time spent in the grass?
If these symptoms have sounds of true,
Then perhaps some meds are due for you.
Don't listen to the false gods of new,
And don't listen to advice of social sheepies too.
Don't do you. Do better. You know what is that thing for which you long.
Fight. Fight and break your chains, for your freedom is long gone.
Wake up my friends. The time has come,
To love, to live, to see, to conquer that which numbs.
For if we don't, last chance to wake may run too fast.
You may find a sleep that is too sweet to pass.
The sun will set and snores will quite,
As an eternal slumber will quench hearts riot.
