Lost at Sea

Lost at Sea

A Poem by Judy Ponceby
"

For Prompts and Reviews

"
Deep and resonant crying
Calling out forlornly
into unfamiliar
ocean depths.

The eerie echo of my voice
sounding through the sea.

Seeking solace in the familiar
But naught familiar here.

Lost at Sea.

Strange waterscapes passing by
my massive form.

Gliding easily, powerfully through
unrecognizable ocean currents.

Calling, calling, calling.

Searching Endlessly.

Rising to breathe from Earth's sweet air.
To take in the brief moment of transition
from water to air and back.

Rolling over the surface,
my tail a flag of despair,
my dive into deep crevasse,
Desperate.  Lost.  Alone.

Searching, searching for my home.

I once sat on sunset cliffs in San Diego and watched a whale surface right under a kyaker. He slid down the side of it and tipped. He swam with all his might to get a way.The whale sunk back into the water and vanished.
Your poem made me remember that day.Beautifully writen and textured.
Desperate lost alone.I hope he find sa home>

Whales are magnificent creatures and their well-being concerns me. Your poem is sensitive and sad.

A wonderful, descriptive poem full of emotion. "Lost" so vividly penned. Well done!

I pity everyone whose tail is "a flag of despair."
With your vivid and artful depiction, Judy, you created a realism here that is genuinely surprising--almost shocking.
I congratulate you.
