A Footprint in the Rain

A Footprint in the Rain

A Poem by MsJewel

Words are weak and so in silence held

I lie still to hear his tender breath

rise above the whisper of the rain…

His kiss was as light as dawn’s first dew

that on calm mornings glistened ‘pon the buds

of flowers soft in bloom as lilies grew

tall against the wind,

                                                                in strength,

                                                                  ‘til rain

would find us but could never wash away

the guilt that hid in clouds above our bed

or the lust that still haunts my soul at night

even through the flood of useless tears

How I wish to rock him in an endless dream

to feel his lips gently kiss away

the fall of rain and yet he hangs his head

His footprint etched upon my grieving heart

such raw emotions and such tenderness. I'm always awed by poets like you, Julie, who manage tto convey an array of feelings with breathtaking expressions. to me, the last line is a killer.
the guilt here tells me the lady is in turmoil because of something she did (?)

lovely poem.

You are a sweetheart. Thank you :) Julie
oh gosh this is beautiful. I struggle with love poems. I'm kinda grouchy I guess. I enjoy reading them but writing them is another matter. the ache in this is palpable, wrenching yet there is love and eloquence in the words. It is a deep mix. Well penned.

I'm thrilled you enjoyed this one Tammy. Thanks so much. Have a wonderful day :) Julie
I always know I am in for a treat when I read your work, but when I see the words "heartprint" above a work, I know you are about to "hit me" with emotion.. and hit me you did.. wow.. the picture is divine but your words are breathtaking... That last line is like the final tug on the heart that makes it break for you... ((hugs)) to you... those "floods of tears" aren't useless.. it is a release... helps cleanse the soul and makes way for the beauty to renew...

I really like the imagery of our hearts as sand that can be molded by the pressure of another.

Julie, this was beautiful and so heartbreaking. Love is a funny thing, has a mind of it's own. It can raise us high, and in the next breath drop us so hard. It feels so wonderful, and hurts so bad. We never know when it will strike.

A beautiful way to express the depths of your heart and soul for someone by showing your true feeling you felt for them, have become lost in your tears now for them. Sometimes love can be so bittersweet to know and sometimes not ? :)
