Razorblade Art (My Exhibition)

Razorblade Art (My Exhibition)

A Poem by Kitty

Do you see these scars all over my body?

They’re my razorblade art.

They are what makes me different –

Sets me apart.

Do you agree that this is an art of beauty,

This pure crimson red?

Would you believe that

For days I bled?

Us artists have to suffer

To achieve this perfection.

We’re very careful with our choices;

Very specific with our selection.

Looking at my art,

I smile at my accomplishment.

This is one of my

Greatest ever achievements!

The scars, red and bulging,

Spell out your name.

I always wondered if you

Ever felt the same.

The answer was apparent

When you stepped on my heart.

That was the day

I started with my razorblade art.

I drew hearts with cracks,

Surrounding your name’s letters.

Soon it became all bloody and red –

I couldn’t imagine a colour suiting it better.

It started with one simple word,

But quickly my body was covered.

I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed

This new pastime I had discovered.

Now with my red ‘ink’

Running down my leg,

I stare at my artwork –

It’s glistening, Greg.

I get shivers down my spine

With each slice.

Every cut is deliberate,

Each line, precise.

This is my art show,

My feelings being expressed.

Do you see the hole

Where my heart once belonged in my chest?

Do you see the pain

That you forced me to go through?

Do you see my anguish displayed?

Well, do you?

This exhibition

Of my razorblade art,

Will be the final chapter in my book,

Just before I fall apart.

Were you able to trace the lines -

Follow the story I told?

Why does the air

Suddenly feel so cold?

My blood stains my white dress,

Crimson-red,

Do you realise

That it was for you I bled?

I’m lying here dying,

My art exposed for all to see,

For all to read the story

Of how you murdered me…

Wow! I can really feel the pain in this piece of writing. Apart from each stanza being well-structured to perfection, the way you incorporate minute details in the form of an art exhibition is truly stunning. I can't say that I have ever self-injured myself; even if I had to fall into such a depression, I think that would be the last thing I would attempt, but from what I have learned, self-injuring is a form of keeping yourself on earth, not drifting off into some intangible realm, where suicide is the next great step. As morbid as subtle black comedy can go (the reference to Greg), you have painted such a masterpiece, both literally and metaphorically, that you can put even an inexperienced person in the shoes of one who suffers so much, yet can achieve a poetic art form no other person can. You could call it a sad sacrifice: your life, for a rare gift of conveying such overwhelming feelings of torture.

Great work!
