Street Saint

Street Saint

A Poem by Leandro Mendez

It is me,
a saint from
the street.
I've witnessed
many wrong deeds,
plus the one's I lived.

I've seen mindless
people going for the wrong
things:
alcohol and other drugs,
lusts, hurting one's love.

I've seen people being
robbed, burned out
homeless people asking
for money to grow on trees,
car crashes 'cause people
were on the phone.

Is this ever going
to stop?

It seems people live
in a cloud
of their own world
that won't go further
than the tip of their nose.

It saddens me that
these things happen
under the light
of my true love,
the moon.

I don't think her light
makes people mad.
I think many people lost
their way in life
and forgot their purposes
in their hearts.
