A Star

A Star

A Poem by Mercury Mirrors
"

The only nonrhyming poem I've ever written. Don't hate.

"

I sat on the edge of the roof,
Crouched like a stone gargoyle.
Staring blankly at the sky,
& the cold stars that twinkled there.

I wonder what it would be like,
To be so far away from here.
Like one of those twinkling stars,
Millions & billions of miles away.

I stood up slowly, my limbs were stiff.
Still staring at the sky, I took a step.
As I fell from the edge of the roof,
The wind was the only sound.

The stars became white lines,
Then suddenly went black.
Long moments passed,
And I opened my eyes again.

I was flying on invisible wings,
And the white lights were getting closer,
Getting bigger. I smiled to myself.
I had finally escaped.
