the street

the street

A Poem by Lydia
"

just thinking about my cousin today...i miss you ronny

it’s a nameless street
looks very much like others i’ve traveled
flowers bordering it may have names
but i never learned them
                  because you knew them
                          and could recite them easily
a street that has lasted
through named hurricanes
and being pummeled
by anonymous hailstones
a street that tempts me
with imagery waiting to be written
because it is the street
that always brings me back
to the memory of you

dear Lydi... I am reminded of the song
from My Fair Lady, entitled "On the street
where you live". My cousin David and his
sister Linda and I shared our childhood.
Now, they are both laid to rest in the
poetic cornfields where we played
and dreamed of our future families.
Your poem has crossed my heart in
familiar ways. truly... Pat

Thank you very much, Stella. Enjoy the day. Lydi**
An unspecial place made special by a precious someone; the two are intertwined beautifully by your fine writing, Lydi. There's a soft nostalgia in this, a sigh of words. '.. a street that tempts me ~ with imagery waiting ..'

Thank you very much, Emma. I appreciate your review. Lydi**
So relatable, this piece... I think we have all been here before, on this nameless street in "anytown, USA", or the world, for that matter, and whether it is a sight, sound, scent, taste, whatever, we are suddenly drawn back into a memory. Beautifully written and filled with tangible emotion!

Places and things can bring back special memories, and your cousin was a very special person in your life, Lydi. You relied on him for remembering flower names and for many other things, too, I'm certain. He was a friend in bad times and in good and will forever be an important part of you. This poignantly beautiful poem will live on forever as a testament to your love for him.

Nice tribute to your cousin relating it with the place (street).
Truly there are things, places, or even words which remind us of important people in our lives.

Well done, Lyd.

This is lovely, Lydi. Yes, there is always "that place" or "that song" that brings us back to the memory of a loved one.

It's the season for remembering our past loved ones... This is a melancholy and touching piece, Lydi. You how us this street, and your affection for your cousin, very clearly.
