The demon blade

The demon blade

A Poem by Anthony (aka Mr.e)
"

A stories perception...are we on the same page?

"

Sometimes our demons become so massive, they merge into one enormous beast, and it’s either kill or be killed. Sometimes they return again and again, and the battle becomes eternal…

Opening the front door to the past

I see the beast has grown fast

The blade still rested in place

better known as my saving grace

I pulled but the blade wouldn’t budge

could it be the weapon’s everlasting grudge

The mass of the beast continued to grow

still approaching but still moving slow

I struggled until my voice began to cry

the blade was free after one last try

Standing tall against the beast

I wasn’t scared in the least

Within a sweaty drip

I tighten my grip

The blade sliced through the beastly overgrowth

to mow the grass is my unspoken oath

Mulch is all that remains

and a few grass stains…

I felt like you were picturing the way I see my fears in. I don't really need to open the front door to the past for them to find a way in, they took over me long time ago. But again, what an intelligent writer you are! Amazingly thought of and spoken.

Thank you Norah, I'm flattered :)
It does one good to get rid of the angst, doing the work around the house. My vacuum cleaner is my mighty 'sword'. Very clever poem, and I hope you managed to get those grass stains off.

Thanks for reading Aunt Astri, and I can live with a few grass stains. :)
I did not expect the ending of this! So very clever- killing the beast of past memories vs.mowing the grass- great either way you look at it. So glad The mighty Excalibur slayed the metaphorical beast! Love the image too.

What a very unique approach to a mundane task, I am with the other reviewer on his interpretation. A true poet can transform anything into flowing art and that you have done well here.

love the ending....and the whole poem makes me think of a modern day "The Raven"---and the writer putting that piece in today's world...like the modern day version of Romeo and Juliet that was set in Los Angeles....
