The Trigger

The Trigger

A Poem by Melissa Kester

My dear friend,
In your darkest of days
When the light has gone out
I'll show you the way
I'll be your guide
I'll be your eyes
I'll help you get through
This eternal night

My dear friend,
Temptation is strong
I've been there before
But we'd best move along
This night holds steady
The dark hooded figure
So I'm begging you, please,
Don't pull the trigger

My dear friend,
You mean more than you know
Not just to me
But the people you know
So we beg you to, please,
Let us be your light
I'll hold your hand
Through this eternal night

My dear friend,
You've got a place in my heart
I think of you often
When we're apart
I would do anything
To make your smile bigger
So my dear friend, please,
Don't pull the trigger

My dearest friend,
Your life is undone
Your story has not ended
And your time has not come
I stand here, a woman
With a plea on my tongue
My heart is heavy for you
Love, please put down the gun
