The Spirit of The Poem

If I could write a poem to touch the reader's heart,
a brilliant poem to heal the hurt and wounds of society
then I'd use special words that are so understanding,
the loving images would inspire the hopeless to dream.

If I could write a poem to make a person think 

then I'd express passionate words that are so creative, 

the reader would be transported to another place and time. 

To a castle courtyard, where a hero king meets for the first time 

the seductive eyes of an ordinary peasant woman, hair tied back,

one who possesses the self-worth of a queen, she has the power 

to bring their destinies together because she understands

that in her hands she is holding her own fate.

And my poem would be able to bring worlds together

and we would become one mind,

and we would become one body

and we would become one with the spirit of the poem.
