Less Than Perfect

Less Than Perfect

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Less than Perfect

She apologized to him

for years that had taken their toll.

For auburn hair that had lost its luster,

and delicate features

that were less than perfect.

He apologized to her

for the guise of gray that clearly shown.

For hands now trembling

at the mere anticipation

of bodies merging,

of lips pressing hard.

After years of being denied

their passion was consummately fed

Slow and methodical,

heeding no apologies.

no apologies necessary when time ages us...that is just the feeling we get of being insufficient for our mates.

i like the mutual acceptance that caresses this poem...

They both had the same love for each other, and the same apologies. I wanted that to come through.... read more

A love that has turned more pages in time than either would care to admit, this piece shows how the sensuality and intimacy may seem different to the naked eye but not to the two lovers still united with the same urgency as ever. Some love and lust can be tamped down by time but the fire will always burn with the same integral intensity. Beautifully penned. take caer....dan

I loved your word choice, of "urgency", Dan. Thank you so much for a most insightful review!
I have goosebumps after reading this, Kelly... this is beautiful and in your words you perfectly paint a portrait of a love that was clearly meant to be... the act of apologizing for ageing no doubt an extended apology for not moving earlier in life to fulfil the hear's desires... we some times end up in relationships that do not complete us but remain there until their ends and if we are lucky we get to enjoy one that was meant to be, no matter when it comes... i love the flow of this piece, slow and steady yet methodical as ageing loves might move... stunning poetry as always... love this!

Your review is my reward for a poem well done...thank you for a beautiful perspective, Thomas!
I saw two school sweethearts who always flirted and had a 'knowing' or a 'sense' they should be together but finally accepted it after years of being apart and only after Life had sent them down two very divergent paths. If anything says Carpe Diem this does Kelly. So well written - delicate and dignfiied and full to the brim with romance. Loved it. :)
