The Artist

The Artist

A Poem by Neville
"

If I try to describe it, I think I would probably spoil it

"

'The Artist'

Placing his left thumb

Into the small hole and

Mixing yellow ochre

With Parisian green

The escaper attempts to paint

His canvas dream

For seven nights

His brush caressed her face

An entire month of tired eyes

Could not capture her

A whole decade later though

An old easel hugs a dusty canvas still

Did he really lose his mind to her

?

If you need to ask the question, then I assure you, you are probably as nutty as an explosion in a snickers factory Neville.
But fear not, I have discovered a 100% effective cure that will banish the constant thought of her spoiling your weetabix forever more.... It all goes away instantly on death.
What? Well what did you expect from the guy in the bouncy room two down from your own?
She messed me up so bad man, that I keep thinking Donald Trump is president ffs!
The so called sane can have this world, i'll just go live on a farm in the countryside with all the other neon green invisible penguins. :)

That's beautiful... I liked the theme so much. It's really creative and fresh. I don't know if the artist captured her or not..but this poem really captured my attention.. extremely beautiful!

Perhaps artists and poets base their own skills and desires via the most beautiful inspiration of all: love wrapped in fate. 'Thinks your artist loved so deeply, so intensely, he reached the stage when he just couldn't do justice to his love.. still present maybe or out of sight. That was the scene set.. but, what you wrapped it in is truly wonderful phrasing, as sincere as you've past written. So very real, Neville.

Thank you sincerely emmajoy... Neville
I know this feeling; things that need to be seen, going unpainted if not unimagined. Nice, very evocative. Good job, Neville, paint me impressed.

This one takes me back to a time when an artist was a very special man in my life. Can an artist truly capture someone on canvas? If the love is there, I believe the answer is "Yes". Love leads some to madness...as does art. Well written, Neville. Lydi**

Yes ..very much so..he gave his all and by doing so lost it all..he was captured by her beauty and couldn't break loose of the thoughts of perfecting his image of her and it drove him quite mad in the end..well written poem here

Artist are overtook by beauty. Writer's too. Hemingway and Salinger wrote of women as perfection and things lost. I liked these words. Artist and writers. Blessed and haunted by thoughts, faces and places. Thank you Neville for sharing the amazing poetry.

what I see that he lost his all to her, not only his mind, I think he didn't paint again, and his dream's painting still waiting hanged there, a real artist may take long years to finish his own satisfying masterpiece, and our artist here seemed to be stuck without being able to move on, almost dead.

Thoughts that capture never lost but finding oneself in the beauty of another- coming home to the place of soft colours hues that turn the soul inside out at peace with the artists brush - wonderful 🌹

thank you my very dear friend & true.... :)
really like the perspective in this one...the narrator a voyeur behind the eyes of the artist ... i can't imagine the paintings left on the easel over the centuries ... trying desperately to express the eye of the beholder .. as an artists dabs and paints and dabs and paints and repaints in the attempt ... i am quite sure this one lost his mind.... poor soul ;( closing with a question like that set the hook for me .. thanks for sharing this Neville ... it has just the hint of being confessional somehow .. are you also a painter? ;)
