Susie

Susie

A Story by Kathryn Smith

As I write this letter

Send my love to you

Remember

That I'll always be In love with you

Treasure these few words

Till we're together

Keep all my love forever

PS

I love you

She listened to the Beatles

And near Christmas

A mother and father

Lined up their ten children

Outside of her bedroom door

One by one

They said goodbye

To their 15 year old sister

Susie

Susie

Was fading

Dying

And it is said that her rising soul

Was seen that night

And the house whispered

Susie

Flash forward to the future

One of the little boys who said goodbye

Grew into a man

And he had a little girl

One day that little girl

Got her hair cut

And visited her grandmother

When her grandmother saw her

Tears  and shock appeared

She couldn't stop staring

So she whispered

Susie

The girl grew into a woman

One day in the woods

She felt touched

By the breeze

And before her eyes

A healthy 15 year old girl

Laughed and jumped and ran

Holding her hand

So she whispered

Susie

and in her ears

was a whisper back

PS

I love you, too

Things like this always give me a little shiver. I think it's because the Irish upon someone's passing really go in for bringing up any kind of story or happenstance that occurred prior to their death.
Many tales of 'clocks stopping' or of sightings of the dead in places they frequented at the precise time when they were dying in their beds are bandied about - perhaps to sooth the family's suffering with a kind of 'proof' of the afterlife.

This gave me chills Kat.
Good job!

Thank you! :)
Interesting and somewhat whimsical tale as you chart a young girls premature death and her spirit as it carries on in others. The emergence of a true spirit I guess suggests life after death?
