Pink Is Not My Favourite Colour

Pink Is Not My Favourite Colour

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We all relate to eras.

"

I have never taken to pinks,

even before these days of equality

and 'Me Too', I never felt

comfortable in pink.

Never having been in-the-pink,

and certainly not pretty in it,

I am more of a blue/grey guy,

more of a blues lover

and a dullard

who relates to scoundrels

such as John Cheever,

Tennessee Williams,

John Berryman,

Ernest Hemingway,

F Scott Fitzgerald

and Raymond Carver.

Perhaps my intoxication

with the days when chivalry

was not scorned as misogynistic,

when opening doors or giving up

ones comfortable seat for a lady,

and the bottle fed many an imagination,

is where I am stuck

in time.

i had that greatest time watching the video ... totally put a smile on my face and energy in me ol' bones ... i might just have to get some lit up shoes and give that dance a go :))))))))))))) i don't kow why but i watched the vid first
and love your poem ...this i not the world our Father's turned over to us is it ... i share the nastalgia for those days of chivalry ... holding respect and appreciation for the so much fairer sex is a good thing after all ... perhaps the Me Too movement is a cry for those days as well ;}
E.
ps. i also have always been a blue man ... aqua sometimes too ;)))))))))
pss. those are some giants in the scoundrel category that you mention aren't they!

Most of the men i know hate pink... and don't even care for anything bright or flashy . I suspect that they don't want to make a spectacle of themselves. It is more than matter of taste I believe.

John,
I hear Carver in this poem . . . film noir of the late forties, early fifties . . . an interesting poem of manners, an honest poem. Nice work!

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
