valentine bar

valentine bar

A Poem by Phibby Venable

valentine bar

tonight she drops plump olives
down her throat
a bloody hot sauce
and a liquor splash
beside her, kay pulls cherries
to her lips
and dips her tongue
in search of something sweet
each with a thirsty longing
each with lips
that would prefer
the frankness of a kiss
if frankness and a kiss
could be combined
if bars delivered
faithful valentines.

Man, this is brutal truth...love has no business being in a bar-although it doesn't stop most of us (I plead the 5th!) from seeking it there. I raise my martini glass to you. ;)

if bars delivered . . .
faithful valentines.

Spare but complete. You say a lot in a little space.

I like the melancholy in this poetry.
