I Remember it Like it Was Yesterday

I remember it like it was yesterday,
the memories of a complete family,
the days of my childhood before that tragedy,
the joy, the laughter, that perfect smile,
I wish you had stayed a million times more than a while.

I remember it like it was yesterday,
when life was simple, an everyday serendipity,
most of my actions gingered by my nonchalance,
the class clown, the guy that couldn't dance,
that girl that made me believe in 'like at first sight',
passions and dreams i had while being awake for most of the night.

I remember it like was yesterday,
the songs that inspired me,
books that made me smile,
moments i thought i would live for all eternity
moments i thought i was about to taste my mortality.


You see i'm not much of an optimist or a saint,
i've done things, made mistakes i live to regret,
but i am what i am, what you see is what you get,
in pursuit of simplicity, not planning to give up yet,
so I REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY,
but my yesterday's always seem so far away.

this is sad but beautifully written! The memories that are just our of reach, that we want so much but cannot keep!
I love the last stanza, "what you see is what you get" That is how i am too and love that type of honesty where you always know where you stand good or bad..its the truth!!

There is so much sadness and lack of hope and a resolution to it which makes it so beautiful at the same time.
Writing in pain and emotion is an art, an outlet. But writing in life and with hope is the true challenge.
