Party of one, trying something new

Filling in the empty spaces on the walls

I left what we had without regrets

And left the memories we made in a drawer

Leading with my head, loving with my heart

I’m happier living without you

Because I love myself more

 

Finding my own way, not knowing my future holds

There is no psychic or crystal ball that knows

Taking care of myself

Spending time on my favorite things

Taking it one day at a time, becoming who I want to be

 

Seeing my life a little clearer, now

Family, friends, some old, some new

Making new memories

Leading with my head, loving with my heart

I’m happier living without you

Lovely poem, speaks on what seemed to be a rather toxic relationships and then breaking free from that because the the person you desired to become is the "real" you over being something you aren't. The best sort of people you can be around, if any are those that help you become more naturally yourself and if they don't or can't do that... then it is better off being alone so you can remain true to who you are. Selfish? No, because how can anyone care for others if one isn't able to care for themselves first.

Seems few that I've known ever took the time to live with themself and learn how to make their own choices and live with their decisions. Many settle for "companions" and call it Love and spend the rest of their time changing (or at least attempting to) their "other" into some THING they momentarily want - often again and again. Othersnever have a clue what it is that they really DO want or even how to share meaningfully.
