Once We Knew Each Other

Once We Knew Each Other

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

This is poem was half of another poem that didn't work well as a whole, so I made two poems instead.

"

True once we knew one another

Now you act like you know me again

You don’t know my struggle

And you don’t know my pain

Don’t act like we’re brothers

Because I cut the chains

You think that you know me

You think I’m the same

But the truth is I am only

A person who’s changed

I’ve been down in the gutter

And been driven  insane

You don’t know my struggle,

But you see I’m in pain

Don’t look at me with those eyes

They’re filled with concern

In my room I cried alone

And through that pain I learned

I put emotions behind me

And I just watched them burn

You look into my eyes I wonder what you see

You know something is off ‘cause I’m not you I’m me

But regardless of changes you give me a hug

Because bonds are stronger than struggles and pain is not stronger than love

If we can’t be brothers then let us be friends

Because your compassion is something I never wanted to end

You act like you know me

And kind of you do

Because I know you’ll love me

Our friendship is true

I’ll tell you my struggle

You’ll stitch up my pains

And maybe together

We’ll be friends again

Author's Note

R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

I think this is one of the best of your oldest poems. I come back to these when I'm upset, just for poems... Well this is the real me, I feel, I can relate everything written here...not a single thing is missed. The old friends, the nostalgic memories of friendship, it never feels the same when we see them after a long time, there's always something missing maybe that gap was what needed to be filled but the time's gone and the void remains.
Well these poems show me a mirror, you wrote this some three years ago and now this means a lot to me as if only a different face but that's me seeing in and out.
