America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful

A Poem by SpokenWord

I remember watching the preacher man
perform illusions from his pulpit of make believe
he told us stories about living life as a lamb
in a world full of wolves that are hunted
by the endangered bald eagle from above

Do you really think I believe
that God intended for me to hurt
when his only begotten son
took all illness and sin from this earth?

My Mother died from lung cancer
commercials say smoking does that
My Grandfather died from congestive heart failure
professionals say excessive drinking causes this
If this is true then
why are both these products
still available on local store shelves?

Why?
because...

your just another carbon unit
working to pay on your slave taxes
a living debt that we pass on to our children
every child born is born owing the government 800 large
their bill to be called an American

Now do you understand why
at times illegal immigrants piss me off
they get the benefit without owing a thing
we can't take care of our own
and I am tired of taking care of yours

but my faith says
it is still my responsibility
so I give with a smile
and love in my heart
still my brain isn't dumb
people are get over artists
from the perpetual welfare clients
to the wealthy who claim insurance fraud

didn't they tell you about America?

we're the original gangsters
a melting pot with a whole lot of guns
and atomic bombs for fools who try us

ask the one's who have messed with us

We found Saddam in a hole
put him on trial in his own country
then hung him live on the internet

we put a bullet in Bin Laden's head
straight mafia now he'll never have his day in court
the war on terror continues
empty victories for our fallen heroes of 9/11

Don't let me start preaching about
Regan, Bush, Clinton and Obama
homeland security would put 3 hot ones in my chest

So put on your Sunday best
get on your knees and pray to God
give praise and honor to his name
preach to me how I am going to hell
while you dance on the grave of the evil dead
then tell me how
how is that an eye for eye ended with the birth and death of Jesus
and how vengeance is mine saith the Lord
and today we celebrate murder in the first degree

That's right we're the good guys
jolly green giants that rule the earth
and all others are evil doers

Tell Mr. Preacher man
is this the America that God is pleased with?
does he see us as living in his son's name
explain to me again how we should live as a lamb

a resounding and nonreligious AMEN!!! to every word within this revelatory poetic from the pouting lips of this failing Buddhist~ you nailed it to its own cross~ altruism in tatters~ ambiguity rules the modern day~ what a shambles we have permitted to take root~ bravo to your courage~ your honesty and the wildly captivating force with which you turn that mirror on us all~ BRAVO!

What a rant! XD Very powerful and engaging! Mad me angry and sad all at once, then threw them right back in my face! Awesome! I'm glad you're angry, I'm glad your frustrations turned to sickness and pours from you like a pitcher of fire! It is better then apathy, it is better then nothing! Inspiring write old friend! Glad to see you are better then ever at creating thought provoking, powerful master pieces!

Your poem reminds me of my JESUS HAIKU.Jesus gets hurt when He watches the things done by his so called disciples or followers. You are really objective.

I'm a Christian, and one must be careful taking words out of context. Jesus died to deliver us from sin, "not to remove sin and illness from this earth". The rewards of this delivery will not be appreciated until the next life. I agree with you on many aspects of this poem. America is "not land of the free", we are brainwashed to believe that we are more free than the rest of the world. I think the U.S. is the reason for most of the turmoil, not Isreal, not Iraq.

wow. your emotion in this poem is so powerful I can hear your voice behind the words (even though I've never heard your real voice before :P ), and though the overall emotion is frustration, the way you have expressed your opinion is just beautiful, and no one can ignore a message written this loud. Just, wow.

Very powerful and outspoken. I love how opinionated and passionate this is. However, I have one comment: you obviously have talent and a voice, and have used it to full advantage. Now I say pull it back. not meaning that you should be any less opinionated or passionate, not at all, but like every craft requires honing. You've reached the point where you can start epirimenting with new techniques. For example, try rewriting this poem (or another, or write a new one entirely) about something like this, but use an extended metaphore. You can write with this anger and confusion, but try bringing some subtlety into it. It'll take your work to the next level. Overall, a passionate outcry about something that needs to be addressed, and a very well written argument. Now take it the next step. Of course, this is only a suggestion and you can disregard it as a dumb idea. Thank you for sharing this with me.

Truly one of the most astounding masterpieces I have ever read in my wee life. You definitely touch on some key issues and speak volumes of truths that most of our current members of society deny.

Most excellent!! Extremely well spoken - if only this could be blasted around the world and force-fed to the pseudo-religious that picket and protest. I don't identify myself as a Christian - but I'm not a Christian-hater by any means. The ideology is *perfect* - it's the people that F it up. Thank you!

A few years ago the States started putting out free condoms, making our country a condom nation, now we have Obama running things, so its become an obama nation, like all other done things the Christian nation will also fall one day.
