Earth's Soul

Earth's Soul

A Poem by Valentine

         Earth's Soul

As all of nature, goes to sleep;

When winter's snow, drifts down.

All creaking timber, sighs and weeps,

For earth's soul, goes...underground.

Cold ice covers, land's dying warmth,

As bitter coldness, enters inside.

Burying all ugliness, where no real harm;

Can come to what, the earth and ice hide.

For a season of time, the world stands still,

Chilled by the brisk freezing breeze.

When suddenly...the sun shines at will,

Slowly thawing, the long winter freeze.

Like warm hands held fast... to the earth,

It once again the ground... shows us its soul;

Opening like, another miracle of birth,

When the sun and ground are again whole.

The sighing and shaking, of the warm land;

As all of the undergrowth pushes through.

Mother Nature needs... no helping hand,

As she awaits spring's rebirth... anew.

Then earth's soul is once again free;

Opening up and baring itself for all to see.

dear Valentine... our soul does respond to the seasons, as we endure the coldness of winter. When birds visit in circles of love and chirp the sweetest songs, our heart and soul is lifted to a more joyous time of rebirth. Beautiful poetry. truly, Pat

You've done a great job of personifying this journey, with vivid descriptions that bring each season alive. Perfectly crafted with rhyme & rhythm, plus word choices that suggest a soft gentleness like the quietness of winter.

dear Kathie... The earth does sigh and breathe in the Spring when the hands of G-d caress our world as sunshine warms our soul. When I suddenly see the new buds forming on the gentle branches of a cherry tree... I believe... Amen

We don't have much of a winter here in California, but your beautiful descriptions took me there. I love the last two verses, my favorites in this wonderful poem. :) Julie

Whether it is the choice of words or the way they flow together but this is a perfect combination of intent, subject and composition. I found myself willing the words to grow springlike as I read through. Excellent.
