"No Winners"

"No Winners"

A Poem by Valentine

             "No Winners"

A empty house...with empty rooms,
Silence echoes, inside of the gloom.
Sunlight streaking through a torn shade;
All sits empty...like old promises...made.

Once each room was filled with things;
Couch and chairs, beautiful glass, glistening.
Voices would echo...down each hall;
Telephone ringing...with everyday calls.

Laughter often bounced off of the walls,
Check on the baby...soft foot falls.
Love filled each and every room;
Life...where silence, now fills the gloom.

Promises made...promises broken as well,
Empty rooms...where many teardrops fell.
Love found...and then sadly discarded,
Broken hearts...faithfulness...unrewarded.

Children lost...in the utter chaos...
Left in tears, they too... pay the cost.
Who are the winners..when love dies;
Who wipes the teardrops from all eyes?

House left empty, as new lives are formed,
Empty cold rooms, that once were so warm.
Children wondering...just what they did wrong,
Were they bad...is that why home is gone?

House sitting empty...it too feels the pain;
Peeling paint...broken shutters, in the weeds lain.

poignant and well described. I can imagine you standing in front of a run down, abandoned house, seeing with your mind's eye how it used to be throbbing with life.
love this one Kathie.

Thank you Woody. I have no children but have seem how marriage breakups affect little kids. Kathie
made me think about my home as a child, born and raised there we were forced to leave when i was 20 and the house was left empty the day after Christmas, the kitchen still warm from the Christmas day cooking, we were forced out by developers and all my memories and dreams were left in the empty rooms and walls that heard my prayers, i have never forgiven those that took such action for financial gain, doubt i ever will, sorry to hijack your poem with my woes Kathie but then again it shows the power of your words to evoke such feelings and memories of old, thank you :)

A bit to settled to be having very much fun. Valentine
Reminds me of my mothers home at barako... That house has seen alot of good and bad times...
Its heartbreaking to loose someone dear to you.... Life seems to stop... You think ' what did I do to deserve all this..' All senses stop... and nothing seems real....
Times are capable of changing in a blink of an eye

I agree with the title. "No winners"
"Children lost...in the utter chaos...
Left in tears, they too... pay the cost.
Who are the winners..when love dies;
Who wipes the teardrops from all eyes?"
When we give-up everything. Many will pay for our mistakes. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry my dear Poet friend.
