The Banalities of Contemporary VanityA Poem by WastedTimeI'm so proud to write this Awash in self satisfactionWe're a team Taking turns beating the obvious Self affirming bromides articulated preciously, finely Aren't we so clever? All this opinion... Of course, what I say means the world to me And the things you say mean the world to you Most will do anything to keep those things truest In the present tense our presence together must not be toxic Less progress So to remain on our team there must be illusion Unanounced and poorly understood Nearly never even stated (how mundane) That we all can be so very wrong, often are Though right here, today in this moment - we both hold our right To believe in what we say Such an uninspiring motive I should think Anyway, that's what I'm thinking today Uninspired These are f*****g platitudes peppered with hackneyed stock phrases Maybe I'm wrong, so be that I will Yes I'd rather be wrong than insipid Rather be stupid with vigor Than ho hum and anemic Contemporary blandness In vanity based conversations I can't find myself So I'm quiting the team And you can go f**k yourself © 2016 WastedTime |
