You

You

A Poem by Winter Brooks
"

A poem about how sometimes the person you need to stand up to most, is the hardest person to stand up to.

"
You
who always said I should shape up
BE BETTER
TRY HARDER
BE STRONGER
Watched as your monsters tore me down
You
who always told me to smile
always stared as it was ripped from my face
I tried to stand up
but you knocked me back down
You
trained me to act
I put on a show for you
and your friends
so that
YOU
could be praised
but you did't care to listen
and you still don't
you just watch
Watch me get torn down
and stop me from getting up
but i will always be too weak to stand up to you
and i will always say,
yes mother
when you call
Just as you trained me to

I loved this poem. It really had alot of great imagery and emotion put behind it. Well written Winter :)

Overall I felt that this poem really stood out. It just seems to scream out to me when I read it. Maybe it's the bold lettering but I really felt this poem was worth the overall prize in Emotion. Thanks for entering my contest and keep writing.

Sincerely Rockel M.
