Nightingale

Nightingale

A Poem by Christopher Robin
"

This is a piece I wrote (lyrics and music) for an Australian indie artist (She did all singing). Due to copyright I cannot give you her name but I've provided a demo version of the song to go with it.

"

This is my first attempt to 'soundcloud-link' a file to this site, so bear with me until I have it figured out, major props to my friend and singer who wishes only to be known as 'Abbie'. I'm sorry that I'm restricted from telling you the proper name and where to find a final edit of this song! This was one of the first times I'd seen one of my works brought to life and it was truly inspirational!

Nightingale

Down the Dark and winding road,

I never knew how far I’d go,

And all the things that I now know

Would bring me back for more.

Under ground and over snow,

Following the river flow

Past the place where flowers grow

I stumbled on the door.

I couldn’t help but stop and stare,

At such a thing just sitting there

So I approached, my knuckles bare

And knocked upon the wood.

It opened up without a snare,

So I approached without a care

And how I learned to disappear

Would soon be understood…

We danced, we danced,

We danced the night away,

The night became the day

Until the light began to fade.

They took me in and told me tales

Cooked me food and poured me ale

And as the moon began to pale

They showed me how to move.

I wondered how I always failed,

To understand I had been jailed.

The freedom of the nightingale

They soon began to prove.

So I learned to jump and fly,

We left the ground and touched the sky

I saw the truth, with my own eye

The troubles of my home.

I thought the song would never die,

They told me life was passing by

And finally I could decide

My troubles were my own.

We danced, we danced

We danced the night away,

The night became the day                   X2

Until the light began to fade.

From my perch, above the clouds,

I built a bridge to help me down,

And all the ways I almost drowned

I learned a way to dance them out.

We danced, we danced,

We danced the night away,

The night became the day,                    X2

Until the light began to fade.

Congratulations on getting yourself published by a fellow artist, that was very beautiful. I hope she gives you the appropriate credit for it. It is very cool that you write music as well. I have always wanted to, but was never patient enough to learn it.

Even without reading your explanation, this had a musical quality to it. I'd love to hear the melody, I imagine it would be quite lovely.

Read twice, then listened, read again.. dawns on me that there's yet another dimension to it.. tis a sweet moral, gently put cos the repeated stanza and the final one adds that extra smidgeon of power.

Great lyrics.. though maybe not initially intended as such... and set to a clear and flowing melody. Your friend sings and plays so well, there's real harmony between words and music. Many congrats for working so hard, even haphazardly, you got truly THERE in the end. Great sound.

Oops!! Sorry my friend i couldn't check out the music. Will do it definitely sooner. But if i see it from your viewpoint you've written it as a nightingale. Which in itself is commendable, for you to go to the depths of her emotions.. to dance and dance till the night fades away.. whoa!! It was so charmingly written i could sing it on my own. Lol. :D... the best part was the realisation- i saw with my own eyes,my troubles were my own. It learned fast that lesson. :) so its about time we heed that message too. Good as ever Chris.
