Drive

Drive

A Poem by amenimity
"

original poem by Kansas City writer Joni Wilson

"

I'm driving to get somewhere,

Past a family bar-b-cue,

And laughing children

Spraying each other with a garden hose.

Not appreciating the work

Put into a blooming rose garden.

I'm just going

To be somewhere other than where I was.

Whistling men in their passing cars--

If I blink, will I notice

The green light changing?

I can't stop.

I'm driving somewhere,

Forgetting where I came from,

Not noticing the brilliant pinks and purples

In the fading sunset.

And the funny thing is,

I still don't know

Where I'm going.
