Unspoken Goodbyes #4

Unspoken Goodbyes #4

A Poem by BbCherryTomato
"

Will it hurt less if you're the one who said goodbye?

"

He tried to smile when he took her hand but his eyes betrayed his troubled thoughts just the same.

And she felt it. She sensed it. Even as they walked hand in hand, there was that restlessness in him that wasn't there before.

And somehow she wondered if tonight would be the night that he would say goodbye.

And she also wondered " would it hurt less if she did it herself?

If she said the words he wasn't ready to say, would her heart not bleed as much?

Would it be easier if she just turned around and walked away?

Right here, right now, would her feet not stumble along the way?

Then, he stopped and she felt his hand loosening against hers, slowly letting her go.

She took a deep breath and looked up into his eyes. His silence broke her heart even more than his words ever could have had.

And as he stood there, quiet and still, she swallowed her tears and simply walked away.
