Unspoken Goodbyes #3

Unspoken Goodbyes #3

A Poem by BbCherryTomato

There she was again, with that far-away, thoughtful look on her face. She sat right across from him. But she was, in truth, thousands of miles away. She was so far away that he might as well not have been there himself.

God! What he would give to delve into that beautiful mind of hers! What was she thinking of right now? What mysteries was she unraveling? He could almost hear the gears turning inside her head, yet he knew not what rhythm they followed.

Every now and then, a tiny frown would crease her brows, like she was wrestling with her own thoughts. And then, she would smile, that tiny smile that tugged at the corners of her mouth. He knew that smile. It used to be his, the one that she gave only to him.

But this time, it was different. This time, he knew that it was not meant for him.

This time, it was meant for the one whose name she whispers in her sleep.

And just like that, he knew. It was over.
