My love

It's been a long time since I cried

And left you out of the blue

It's hard leaving you that way

then I never wanted to

Self-denial is a game

It's strange I never would've

Wanted if until there was you

Because I have learned that love is beyond

What human can imagine

The more it clears the more I have to let you go

CHORUS:

But now I don't understand

Is why I'm feeling so bad now

When I know it was my idea

I could've just denied the truth and lied

But why am I the only one standing

Stranded on the same ground?

Would you be brave to see right through me?

I thought you could be everything

I would wish for,

To be someone to share my life with.

But maybe fate had been cruel,

When love is at stake,

Self-denial is the only defense

I can give at this point.

I am beyond hurting,

I am beyond expecting,

And maybe one day,

I can also be beyond loving.

The abyss wherein

I was drowned for so long,

I just can’t climb up

And say the end.

It was a long road

To take,

A lot of support

And understanding.

Let time tell,

That I can really love

A person completely again

And no denial this time.

the mental defense mechanism denial is probably the most oft employed by us humans around the globe.. and whilst it can serve a useful purpose, its overuse can be most prohibitive and damaging, to self and others..... nice song and nice poem sette, your creative/artistic side shines through these words.... l like your song and poem, Sette. It carries intense meaning and frustration for you, no doubt. Everyone's life is a drama only they can act out until the end -- no stand-ins like in the movie casting. My own songs about life and love come through a long process but usually serve a real therapeutic purpose. After writing on some aspect, I feel like I can move on. The song has a ring of reality.
