The extravagance of a memory

The extravagance of a memory

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

Tell her children that her dragon lives... O

"

Odysseus

Rider of waves

You planted the seed of the city

And graced its gardens

With seven stones from the sun

Even then my angel walked the earth

Translucent light was she

With burning wings

And she knew I was no man

But an untamed beast

A savage creature of fire

That only she could soothe

In the music of her halcyon lullabies

Then they came

The rancorous binding ones

And they shackled her

In those dark chains of reputation

Cursing her wild wings

Her soul caged

Odysseus

 Tell her children

That her dragon lives

And will come to her side

That she will one day fly free

For I know that I do not exist

Except in the extravagance of her memory

I love this:

"That her dragon lives
And will come to her side
That she will one day fly free"

I am of opinion that you should write a novel. A fantasy novel or a romance novel. Both? They don't have to be mutually exclusive.

My Pleasure......
yes, you do tell such good stories....we get lost in the tale, absorbed in the poetic journey, wishing this place in our minds actually existed in the real world.

The captive angel harboring the memory of dragon fire, and this remembered dragon as protagonist from the shadows...this is splendid and mature storytelling, excellent poetry.
This is you.

The choice of title's way Translucent. Speaks many things throu' the essence of your holy-words. Liked the story-line of your poetry, moreover the theme of: "Odysseus" - the legend of legend...

.. no matter what you do with love, life, & to the fantasies you might've been fantasized with since 'eons, time ain't give a damn 'bout things you whirl around. Odysseus was himself a great artistic and heroic spirit, of course, xcross the world, but today, he's all turned to a wisp - a fog - just an "Extravagance" of memories in memories, however, the essence - the worth of his life's still impacting many hearts just like it did to you. You capture many panoramic type of things in few creative-ripples of words with your poetic-simplicity which got me... studying "Odysseus" more in depths. Very touching poetry you just come up with.

The way you write or the things you implant deep in your stuffs (with the depths of "classic-thoughts") is what makes me reading your poetry (and prose, of course) with honor so i guess, i've really had a great time with your poetry, as always i've...

.. furthermore, i must admire you for your creative sense of humor as well that got you writing "Author's Note" ... yeah, it's gently merged with your poetry & the title you chose working/writing on. Ah, ev'n the quote speaking the course of "The Extravagance Of Memories". Excellent! What a beautiful poetry!

So tuned always in thought....I am not surprised I found this here, you here in forum with memories....I hear each world, see each manifestation and know I have wandered into like kingdoms...been at battles...listened to tears and seranades. I'll walk with you dear friend for the kinship is uncanny and the journey too long and treacherous to walk alone....for no man or woman should ever just look and see less than three sets of prints or two empty hands. Namaste!

Oh well done1 In my humble opinion this is a very good poem. One does not need to know the mythology. The poem stands on its own.
