The chains forged freedom

The chains forged freedom

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

Inspired by “Barbarians Rising”…

"

Listen

Listen to the winds

When they rage against the walls

You will hear the ancient cries

As they confess their deeds to heaven

Heroic deeds to defy the legions

The empire forged against them

Forged to crush their people

Hear the voice of Hannibal ruler of Carthage

Who waged war on Rome since he was nine

Spartacus the bound gladiator of the Colosseum

Who turned slaves into warriors

Viriato shepherd of fearless Lusitania

Rising to shepherd her people to battle

Arminius the kidnapped child of Germany

Defiant soldier who turned on the hand of Rome

Boudicca, warrior queen of Celts

Enraged to fight the slaughterers of the Druids

See how the chains forged freedom

So you may gain courage in their voices

For your own struggles this day

Listen to the winds

Listen

My goodness: gone the coloured jewels and gently laid sad or happy times Craig.. All hail to the might of distant past!

If only we so.called modern beings could adopt the same power of intention - success, protection - yet more success.

However, sad to say that it seems to be that, in order to do that there need be more battle-cries, more blood shed, more aftermath.

The alternative is to cede to what's going on in the world. Thoughtful folk know that to succeed, there needs to be justice and respectful power not irrelevant and irreverent chaos.

A wise leader carefully, quietly beckons the people to stand and be counted; hard though it is to inspire others to listen and act diplomatically. Find the one or few who answer to the Creator's commandments or Man's ancient ethics and - who knows.

I wish you joy as you raise your voice in this glorious way - is yet another work of art but its colours darker to allow its power stand as a beacon.

' For your own struggles this day
Listen to the winds
Listen '

Typed too much? Forgive me, please.

Yes, we must all live beyond ourselves. Thank you.
Lovely poetry, such visual images you created with what history taught us about freedom. And Mandela's quote.....somewhat controversial, yet still true, echoes in the background. We need to listen to that voice in the wind. Sometimes it takes a while before that wind blows in the right direction. :)

Yes, dear Queenie, may that hero I know lives in you always rise and flood the world with light.
A very beautifully crafted write to bring out your message, Croman. I loved reading it.
It is very unfortunate that even after so much progress and development we have to fight for getting what is right. A very inspiring poem to keep up the spirits of those who are fighting and for those who lack the courage to get it and forge ahead.
Very well done. Thank you for sharing.
