Carolers

Carolers

A Poem by George Love
"

One song saves a life

"

Carolers

Lifting high their voices into the night
They wander from door to door,
Making merry with mixes of mirth
Joy to the World, their carol sounds forth
Far reaches their voices and pricking one heart
Changing the thoughts of dark despair
Not to his door they come,
But closely, now closely they sing.
Wandering through the darkness stumbles
Lights, lights or they pass him by
On with the switch and to him they come!
Strangers all, none know his name
Yet in that one moment
A life they have saved
Sweet their music fills his longing ears
Years so long past rush now memories
Of youth, of love and song
Sing once he did, and all loved his song
Till one dark night
A careless one did think
Himself stronger than the drink
Hurtling through night, they did meet
Silenced the voice, and voices of youth
From this, he sheds tears day and night
Swearing he would, his ears now behold
Youthful voices, so much like those
Silenced that night from so long ago
Angels, small angels he watched as they rose
Leaving him with his loss
Till this night unfolds
There they stand with voices so bold
As he places cold steel back on its place
Not tonight, as the songs they sing on
Or not the next, their memory he holds
Lifts now his voice
Joins he their throng as once more
His chords find life in the song
Love, love so dear
His voice now strong and joins them this night
As one more soul to save do they call.

Wow - this was a magical tale. The description and narration was flawless and made me believe that I was actually there.^^ I loved the dark, ironic ending as well. Great job!
