Just a Smidgen

Just a Smidgen

A Poem by Sanober

Leave me just a smidgen
of a rainbow...to remain
besotted with..for months,

some jasmine-clouded tea
some sandwiches

and a smile, just warm enough...
to spend a million
golden afternoons in

some family anecdotes,
for the woebegone days,

some of mother’s own
brand of laughter,
for the utterly
miserable ones

leave my morning skies
a shade of heart-stopping blue
along with blown kisses
of white birds

leave me with wings of books,
on the coffee table, some music
that’s chocolate for the heart,

some unbreakable spells
of Downton Abbey
and some rain-smudged
sunsets by the sea,

some almost-whiffs of poetry...
in the most unexpected
places, ...moments

with some aching...
that will only heal...
in the mosque of sleep,

with thunderstorms...
as dear to me,
as the quiet gentleness
of your breath on my cheek.

Wow. So many things I would also want to be left with ... thunderstorms, Downton Abbey, mother's brand of laughter.... all the imagery and memories and sensations needed to keep one happy in the loneliest and bleakest of times. I think that my favorite part of this write was "... leave me with wings of books, on the coffee table, some music that’s chocolate for the heart ...". Yeah, those are among the most critical the things life needs to shine. A most enjoyable read. Kudos. ~Jim

dear Sanober... it seems like a hundred years since your
poems brought me to tears. You compose the sweetest music...
like Chimes through the trees on a Summers day. I miss you.

dear Sanober... "a smile just warm enough
to spend a million golden afternoons...".
Your primrose path of words is strewn with
tenderness and romance. Mother's laughter
lingers in my heart forever and a day.
You are truly blessed with silver blue rain
and sunshine showers of music dancing
through meadows of wild flowers.
truly... Pat

Wow indeed, this is quite some poem. I find myself repeating & reinforcing everything positive that each of my reviewing predecessors have already mentioned.

From the first line through the last, you allow the reader to bathe in simply irresistible images painted by your talented pen! I want to spend golden afternoons drinking jasimine-clouded tea now! How sweet your mother's laughter can brighten your dark days and "wings of books" can carry you away to better places. The concept of music being "chocolate for the heart" is divine! Sunsets, Downton Abbey, poetry in unexpected places, and a lover's breath on your cheek....heavy sigh....the romance of this is just elegant. Sanober, every time I read a new poem you have written, I am convinced you can't get better, but I am always wrong. Kudos to you, my friend! Lydi**

What a great thank you, Sanober! You are always so poetic! Lydi**
Beautiful imagery and nicely crafted, leaving us with a feeling of wistfulness.

I particularly like 'the mosque of sleep' although I couldn't tell you exactly why. Also, 'wings of books' - I guess that one appeals to the reader and writer in me.

Lovely poem, thanks.
