The Water Song

The Water Song

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Lyrics I have been working on

"

Waking up feeling sea sick

Realizing I’m now stranded

On this island made of stone

Cause of last nights shipwreck.

The oceans flow so deep

And rivers run so fast

But unlike you and me

They will always last.

I tried to use a lifejacket

To make it back to you and me

But ended up in a dark abyss

Beneath the deep blue sea.

Chorus:

Floating here all alone

Waiting for the storm

To have mercy on me

By washing me ashore.

Where I can dry my heart out

And understand what are love boat was for.

Now my tears flow like a stream

For the first time in so long

It is so hard to try and

When you feel like a rock in a pond.

When will it rain on my pain

So hope can be my shelter

And the sorrow washed away

Down a drain with your promises.

Chorus:

Laying here all alone

Waiting for the storm

To have mercy on me

By cleansing my soul

So when everything is calm

I can move on to something more.

Thank you... would love to hear that.
The imagery of rain, river, streams and tears have left the reader with an emotion that is hard to wash down. Hope is a shelter, the redeemer when times seem bad. That which is transient, was never meant to stay and heavens ought to be thanked for their mercy.

Your song's lyrics lay it bare, without cushioning it in pretentious verbiage that many tend to do.

Good wishes,
M.

dear Dale... the storms of life leave us like shells upon the beach... with stars within our reach... smiling under moonbeams of memories. truly, Pat

Thank you for your kind words Pat.
Much appreciated.
What a powerful rhythm and flow of thoughts. So excited to see you working on music, making the poetry come alive in the song. I realize so often that the great poets today are most often the lyricists, and you are here carrying the form forward.
