Once Upon Some Times

She looked at me

as I sipped my coffee

at a table in the bookstore

She didn’t really look at me

It was more as though

she was looking through me

Her mouth was slack

Her eyes unfocused

As though she was moving

far too rapidly through time

as she remained

anchored in her space

I didn’t know whether to

smile at her,

look away, or

reach out and grab her

to rescue her from

the clutches of time

By the time I decided

to flash her a smile

she had disappeared

Perhaps I’ll see her again….

At some other time

In some other space

Its the little things we remember. They make us smile and feel good inside or they make us think. A life lesson? Maybe. Missed opportunity? Perhaps. We live, we learn. Often times, observation becomes good nutrition for writers.

This is really nice writing.

Existence is a very strange thing I do say. And all the other creatures we get to encounter while we hurdle through space, it's just about incomprehensible to me.

You should be more generous with your smile to stranger distribution.

You are so right. I have been working of late on my "smile quick draw"
