Lepidium Sativum

Lepidium Sativum

A Poem by h d e rushin
"

for joanne

"
and suddenly
in this instance of joining, under the sky full and the juste purposes.

the rinds of the greenish life melons, in solar-time, pressed into the shapes of birds.
and we

two Negro's taken in by the abundance. We jerked
till our hair fluxed villainous as Simone Biles' after her mat dances.

passion demands purity, at a glance; a howling like tense, like wind.
bramble. Gregorian rhythms. growing plants

eloping as trees as winged teal and naked, as most of love is. Our
fears culls into liquid glass blowing

shining smooth and water filled like gladiolas. At night,
as the bald cold approaches

and the epoch slowly drowns outwards towards speculation,
happiness is the vehemence that plants our wretch

interminable, like two unraveling snails
covered with salt

You and yours too Dana
I agree with Beccy, this is an impressionistic write. To appreciate this one would have to talk about colours of feelings and the tones of words. The type of light to read into.
To explore your mind in this way is nothing short of miraculous.

You string words together, like Debussy strung notes; sometimes slightly off beat, almost impressionistic in tone; but always the blend comes together perfectly.

Even when your poetry addresses sadness it is charming and beautiful.

'like two unraveling snails covered with salt.' Yes!

Beccy.

something about poetry ...i experience things i would never had thought to even think about let alone learn about .. had to look up your title and so surprised at the spicy common herb:

and i am not much of a sports person so did not know who Simone is ... sat mesmerized by her videos ..just incredible!!! so thank you for those things right off ...your poem is full of strong, emotive images ...third couplet is sexy/sensual ...and i especially feel "...Our
fears culls into liquid glass blowing"
brilliant says i! simply brilliant! and your closing ...oh my goodness .. i never poured salt on a snail but found out about it as an adult ... funny thing...it was a girl that told me ... eeeeyow such a sharp contrast in closing ..great read for me

O.m.g. This might be my favorite of all favorites of yours. maybe, it was stanza two or maybe the line eloping lines of teal, or maybe the closing about the poor writhing snails in pain, love shouldn't hurt sugar, just so you know, but it makes a fab line doesn't it..hugs

i am struck by this...and as i read, i couldn't help singing out loud, the michael nesmith song..." her name was joanne, and she lived by a meadow in the..."
growing like plants...the strongest parts of us maintain, the weaker parts fall from us as life goes on...we mature---and with proper nurture...we find our true selves...
slowly but surely, we get there.
