A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Representation

grief flickers,

like window dressing

a mannequin's quivering lip

a wooden tear,

plaster eyes widen

yesterday's sunshine illuminates

like a two way bulb

dim memories

sharper daggers

then the “off” switch

no more feeling

a wardrobe of once exciting design

given to Good Will

the store closes on the moment

fashionable mistakes forgotten

till the next line

is introduced.

I find your take on fashion extremely fascinating
In a way doesn't fashion resemble some element of humanity

hidden in all the make up, color and textiles
There is a crying soul somewhere wondering if we all have missed the point of life

That it was never about the dressing
It was always a matter of soul

You make fashion a controversial topic of the day
Maybe it is

Those poor dummies. Perhaps a new line will bring them some humanity.

the closing of a clothing store like the closing of a relationship, or life, perhaps...the lip-quivering mannequin becomes the grieving as it watches helplessly as its wardrobe is donated to Good Will, just as we did with my dad's clothing a couple of months back... i really like where this piece takes me: i sense the grieving but there is a tiny bit of hope that a new line is forthcoming...

thank you for your kind review, FT.

I like the description of grief as "flickers" because it really does....

it's not a constant. it ebbs and flows. sometimes it cuts like a knife; other times it's a dull twinge.

but it's always there once it's born, and it's born of love.

great piece.
